A suspect has been taken into custody after a standoff at the Paramount Pictures studio lot in Los Angeles.
Officers with the Fullerton Police Department were in the area of Plymouth Boulevard and Melrose Avenue near the Paramount Pictures studio lot to arrest a sexual assault suspect at around 10 p.m. on Sunday, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) tweeted early Monday.
When they attempted to detain the suspect, the man produced a knife, the department said. Officers used a Taser on the suspect and requested backup from the LAPD.
As LAPD officers arrived, officers used a bean bag round on the suspect which was "also ineffective," police said.
"At the Melrose gate to the lot there was an officer involved shooting. The suspect ran onto the lot and barricaded himself inside of a building," the LAPD said in another tweet.
"Officers attempted to negotiate with the suspect to surrender."
At around 12.15 a.m., officers entered the building and took the suspect into custody.
The man, who was not identified, was bleeding from wounds he sustained during the incident, police said. He was transported to a local hospital.
No officers were injured during the incident.
Police previously warned people of the heavy police activity in the vicinity of the 5500 block of Melrose Avenue. "If you live in the area, please stay indoors. If you don't live in the area, please stay away at this time," the LAPD tweeted.
Late on Sunday night, photojournalist John Schreiber tweeted aerial shots of the lot, showing that LAPD officers were in the "New York Street" part of the studio with lights trained on one of the building facades.
"Police continue to focus on this building and one particular window on the top floor. Canine units also seen down below," Schreiber added in another tweet.
The LAPD has been contacted for additional comment.
