News of equity performer layoffs is surfacing at Walt Disney World, affecting many of the beloved and tenured entertainers of the Citizens of Hollywood troupe at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The layoffs are hitting long time Equity Actors tonight. I hate this. The Disney parks have been soul-less without the shows and live entertainment on every corner.

When Disney’s Hollywood Studios reopened in July, many hoped that the roaming improv characters would return to the park, as they’ve been a staple of its entertainment lineup since 1989, back in the days of the Disney-MGM Studios when they were known as Streetmosphere.

Gee thanks 2020. Took loved ones, friends, our normal way of life, wreck my sanity, brought in a reign of terror to a certain aspect of my life, and now…….NOW you’re taking away what does make us all laugh and smile. Juan Scenario. Thank you for years of laughs. Thank you for making us normal folks have our troubles melt away while listening to jokes, bad songs, etc. All of the citizens make the Hollywood Studios what they are and I can’t even wrap my head around this. So thank you all you mask-holes who refuse to wear masks, social distance, or stay your asses at home because you feel “entitled and it’s against your rights”. Well congrats. While you selfishly do whatever the hell you want, folks are losing their jobs. Laughter is being silenced. Stages are going dark. Forever. Art is being taken away from us. Fans and performers alike are taking to social media to show their gratitude to the Citizens of Hollywood and other equity performers that brought the Disney Parks to life every day. Here at WDWNT, we were huge fans of the Citizens of Hollywood, and are distraught at the decision to cut their performances in the park.

It’s unknown whether these characters are gone for good, but we hope to see the return of these extremely talented performers to the parks very soon. Select equity performers returned to Walt Disney World back in September after initial negotiations, but for the most part, the majority of entertainment across the resort has remained dark, with performers on extended furlough up until the recent layoffs.

The Walt Disney Company restored the salaries of its Senior Executives in late August, when thousands of Cast Members were still on furlough.

We encourage our readers to help Cast Members during this difficult time by making a donation to the Cast Member Pantry.
