Best of the Batch boot camp puts Steelers and celebrities head-to-head for a good cause
Former Pittsburgh Steeler Charlie Batch hosted the 14th annual "In the Pocket" boot camp Thursday, a pool, ping pong and poker competition that pits Steelers against celebrities for a good cause. The Best of the Batch Foundation raised money for science, technology, engineering, arts and math programs. The STEAM program offers tutoring, mentoring and out-of-school services that help keep students engaged in their education. Best of the Batch was founded in 1999 to give back to Batch’s hometown of Homestead. Since the organization's founding, the programs have grown to the point that expansion was needed. Batch says “In the Pocket” participants got to see how far the education facility in Homestead has come over the years.“What you're seeing here is a transformation from 5,300 square feet to 33,000 square feet and people get to have the opportunity right now to see first hand why we've been doing the event over the years," Batch said.Among the guests at the event last night were Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 anchors Chandi Chapman and Andrew Stockey.
