Hollywood Walk of Fame's iconic star-shaped plaques honor talent and contributions to the entertainment industry.
The world's most famous sidewalk has over the years grown from a 1953 advertising gimmick into one of Hollywood's top tourist attractions, drawing approximately 10 million visitors annually.
But eagle-eyed visitors may spot some seemingly odd inclusions among the roughly 2,600 celebrity stars embedded along Hollywood Boulevard.
From cartoons to cars and diners to dogs, Newsweek presents some of the strangest stars to be found along the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
1. Apollo 11 Mission
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in the early 1970s honored the Apollo 11 mission and the U.S. astronauts who landed on the moon on July 20, 1969, with a uniquely designed special award in the category of Television as a tribute to the first televised walk on the moon.
The most famous live TV broadcast of all time was also the longest continuous live television coverage in history, lasting for 31 hours straight.
2. Big Bird
Big Bird is the lead Muppet character in the long-running children's television show Sesame Street.

5. Disneyland
On its 50th anniversary in 2005, Disneyland received a star near the iconic animation studio's Soda Fountain on Hollywood Boulevard.
Stars for commercial organizations are only considered for those with a Hollywood show business connection of at least 50 years' duration.
However, because city ordinance prohibits placing corporate names on sidewalks, the Disneyland star is technically installed adjacent to the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
6. Kermit the Frog
Kermit the Frog, puppeteer Jim Henson's most famous Muppet creation, was first introduced in 1955.
American actor and Muppet fan David Arquette was among the celebrities supporting Kermit the Frog when the popular puppet received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2002.
7. Godzilla
Godzilla first appeared in the seminal 1954 Japanese kaiju film of the same name and was praised as a powerful metaphor for the nuclear holocaust.

American former professional basketball player Magic Johnson is recognized as one of the all-time NBA greats and attracted praise for returning to the game after being diagnosed with HIV in 1991.

12. Mickey Mouse
Mickey Mouse became perhaps the world's most iconic cartoon character after it was created in 1928 by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks.

16. Pee-wee Herman
Pee-wee Herman is one of the strangest characters to possess a Hollywood Walk of Fame star, as his background has remained relatively ambiguous.
During interviews, he has been portrayed as though he is a real-life stand-up comedian playing himself in movie and TV shows, resulting in the recognition awarded to Pee-wee Herman instead of actor Paul Reubens.
17. Winnie The Pooh
Pooh debuted as a cartoon character in the 1966 Disney featurette Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree and the affable animated bear has since starred in dozens of movies and cartoon series.
