Ryan Murphy's newest series, Hollywood, has proven to be very popular on Netflix, taking a deep dive into the Golden Age of movie-making. The series is full of glitz and glamour and also features a real variety of characters, from actors and directors to company owners and pimps.
But while there are lots of different personalities, there is also a real mix of intelligence. A great show tends to have characters with a real variety of smartness as it creates intriguing conversations and situations, but which Hollywood character was the smartest?
10 Rock Hudson
Someone has to be at the bottom of a list like this, and in the series of Hollywood, it is Rock Hudson who is the least intelligent. While Rock isn't necessarily stupid, he is just very naive as he is new to the industry, and therefore he doesn't always understand or read certain situations.
That is the case outside of the working world as well though, especially with his relationship with Archie, as he often doesn't quite understand things that are going on. He takes a basic snapshot view of everything, which sadly makes him the least intelligent character on the show.
9 Claire Wood
Claire Wood is another aspiring actor, much like Rock Hudson, but she isn't particularly the smartest. Claire is happy to flirt around and try to impress everyone, even though she is actually a talented actress anyway.
She sees things in a very superficial way and often doesn't take other people's feelings into account, especially when it comes to her parents. Her inability to really analyze situations and think about other people is a big weakness of hers, and it leaves her ranked lower down.
8 Jack Castello
Perhaps it's a thing with actors on this show because Jack Castello is another who is desperate to get into Hollywood. He does a lot of things in order to get there such as working at Ernie West's petrol station, which involves him sleeping with different people.
He makes poor decisions which cost him his relationship with his wife, and he's also not smart enough to work out that her pregnancy isn't actually his children by doing the maths. However, he is a hard worker, which helps get him through.
7 Avis Amberg
Avis Amberg might end up in a great position of power due to her husband dying, but the fact is that she's not actually that clued up about the movie-making industry. This is mainly because she's shunned by Ace throughout their time together, with him deciding to not bring her on board to make any real decisions.
Because of that, she has an intelligence of someone watching things develop from the outside, but when she gets in control it's clear she is receptive to ideas and is happy to push boundaries, which is great.
6 Raymond Ainsley
Raymond Ainsley works as the director of Meg in the show and while he is someone who has tons of energy and really tries to make things happen, he doesn't really get time to showcase his intelligence. He blows the budget for the movie by making a poor call, but he also directs a film that becomes a major hit.
There's no doubt that he is incredibly talented at his job and that is something that helps him out massively. He's a smart individual but out of all the main cast, he's not shown quite as much as others so he ranks a little lower down.
5 Camille Washington
Camille Washington is certainly the smartest character out of all the actors in the series. She knows that she's incredibly talented and is smart enough to always push for different angles even when she only has a small role within the movies.
She is also smart enough to make it very clear that she could be the lead role of Meg, even if it meant changing things around a lot. She is someone who senses an opportunity and ensures that she grabs it with both hands.
4 Archie Coleman
Archie Coleman is a very smart person, which is needed considering the job he has as a scriptwriter. There's no way he would be able to create fantastic movie scripts as he does without having great intelligence. But he showcases his brains throughout the show.
Archie has a really level-headed approach to everything throughout the show even though he is constantly ridiculed for his race and sexuality. He stands strong and makes really smart decisions making him an intelligent character.
3 Ernie West
Ernie West is one of the people who has been involved in the Hollywood world for a long time when this series takes place. While he hasn't got to the point he would like, instead, working as a pimp, he is well-respected and a great businessman.
He's clearly very intelligent as he is a real people person. He can judge people by just looking at them, working out their personalities instantly and that is a real sign of smartness in itself.
2 Dick Samuels
Dick Samuels might not be the man who runs Ace Studios, but he certainly keeps the company alive by being the man doing all the work. Ace Amberg might run the company, but it is Dick who runs around turning the movies from a script to a reality.
He knows every aspect of the industry inside out and that's why he ends up being such a well-respected person. There isn't anybody who doesn't like Dick and a lot of that is down to his smartness.
1 Henry Willson
Henry Willson may not be the nicest character within Hollywood, but he is undoubtedly the smartest. Henry might act in an incredibly cruel and disgusting way at times, taking advantage of vulnerable people that he encounters, but that doesn't mean he isn't smart.
Henry knows everything that is going on within the movie industry, no matter what aspect it is. His ability to play the game and manipulate issues into his own benefit really does propel him into a position of power.
