Britney Spears was freed from her long-standing conservatorship this weekend, sparking celebration all over social media. On Friday, November 12, Judge Brenda Penny officially dissolved the conservatorship, which has been in place since 2008, controlling Britney’s finances and major life decisions. “As of today, effective immediately, the conservatorship has been terminated as to both the person and the estate,” Britney's attorney Matthew Rosengart said in a statement on Friday. “This is a monumental day for Britney Spears.”
The singer-songwriter’s freedom comes just a few weeks after Judge Penny suspended Britney’s father, Jamie Spears, from the conservatorship, effectively releasing her from his previous financial control. “I want to be heard,” Britney had said during an appearance in court earlier this year. “I want changes and I want changes going forward. I deserve changes … I just want my life back, it's been 13 years and it's enough.”

An outspoken supporter of Britney’s, Mother Monster shared in the happiness over the conservatorship’s ending. “I have loved @britneyspears her whole career,” Gaga wrote. “I looked up to her, admired her strength—she empowered so many people and still does.
