The tentpole is doing monster business and has passed up 'Tenet' to become the top-grossing pic of the pandemic era in North America.

Godzilla vs. Kong easily stayed No. 1 in its second weekend despite tumbling 58 percent to $13.4 million from 3,084 theaters for a domestic total of $69.5 million and worldwide haul of nearly $360 million.

The tentpole is doing monster business and has already passed up fellow Warner Bros. release Tenet to become the top-grossing pic of the pandemic era in North America.

Globally, its total through Sunday stood at $357.8 million, with an international total of $288.3 million. Sometime early this week, it will pass up Tenet ($365 million) sometime this week to rank as Hollywood's top-grossing, pandemic-era tentpole.

Godzilla vs. Kong's foreign showing is led by China, where it has earned $165.4 million to date. Australia is next up with $16 million, followed by Mexico ($15.8 million), Taiwan ($11.7 million) and Russia ($11.1 million). Many parts of Europe are still battling the COVID-19 crisis and under a lockdown.

In the U.S., the fourth installment in Legendary's MonsterVerse series had the advantage of being the first movie to open after cinemas in New York and Los Angeles were finally allowed to reopen, albeit at reduced capacity.

Last weekend, it's rousing $48.1 million opening at the North American box office and $123 million internationally was a huge boost for the battered film and exhibition business and underscored the pent-up demand among moviegoers to return to the theater.

The tentpole is also available on HBO Max, although viewership numbers, unlike box office grosses, aren't disclosed.

“We’re thrilled that Godzilla vs. Kong is bringing audiences back into theaters where they are open around the world, and also delivering for our HBO Max subscribers in their homes here in the U.S.," Chairman, Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich said in a statement.

Universal's maverick Bob Odenkirk action pic Nobody came in No. 2 in its third weekend with $2.7 million from 2,400 sites for a domestic total of $15.6 million and $28.8 million globally.

Sony/Screen Gems' The Unholy followed with roughly $2.4 million from 1,850 locations for a 10-day total of $6.7 million, followed by Raya and the Last Dragon with $2.1 million from 1,941 cinemas for a domestic total of $35.2 million (Raya is also available on Disney+).

New entry Voyagers from Lionsgate and AGC Studios faltered in its nationwide debut with $1.5 million from 1,972 theaters. The Neil Burger-directed sci-fi thriller placed No. 5 after getting battered by critics and moviegoers, who gave the pic a C CinemaScore.

More to come.
