The panels highlighted how to use the power of storytelling, production, and personal platforms to advance social justice issues, heal community divides and increase opportunities for rising and diverse talent.
On Jan. 16, The Hollywood Reporter and entertainment public relations agency Impact24 PR presented a virtual event called Summit Hollywood Together: A Look Into Diversity, Allyship and Access.
The event featured four panels: “Content Creation in the Social Justice Age,” “Owning Your Narratives,” “Activating Opportunities in Hollywood,” and “Healing Artivism,” and concluded with a series of performances from rising talent as well.

Content Creation in the Social Justice Age
Twitch streamer TheHunterWild, digital content creator Kalen Allen, beauty influencer and drag personality Kimora Blac, and recording and social change artist MILCK discuss how they use their platforms to mindfully communicate social messages to their audiences. This panel was moderated by Malakai, founder of Made In Her Image.
Owning Your Narrative
Cheryl Dunye (Filmmaker, The Watermelon Woman), Sue Obeidi (Director at the Muslim Public Affairs Council Hollywood Bureau), George Salinas, (Exec
utive Producer and CEO of Bridge Works Entertainment), and Dr. Joely Proudfit (President of Native Media Strategies) virtually come together to discuss how they are crafting their own stories while building teams that preserve and respect authenticity, identity, and community. This panel was moderated by Joy Donnell, Co-Founder of the Center for Intersectional Media and Entertainment (CIME).
Activating Opportunities in Hollywood
Greg Anderson (Head of Studio-NY/SR. VFX Supervisor at FuseFX), Maikiko James (Director of Programs at Women in Film LA), Phil Quist (Music Agent at Creative Artists Agency and Investor at Connect Ventures), Ashley Villa (CEO and Founder of Rare Global), and Frank Garcia (Director of Music at DreamWorks Television) highlight key ways diverse aspiring creatives can discover untapped resources and connections in order to develop and advance their careers. This panel was moderated by Abigail Severance, Dean of School of Film/Video and California Institute of the Arts.
Healing Artivism
Ilyasah Shabazz (Professor, Author, and Chairperson of The Shabazz Center), Favianna Rodriguez (President of The Center for Cultural Power), Colette Williams Alleyne (Chief Education Officer at Inner-City Arts), Snehal Desai (Producing Artistic Director at East West Players), and Himerria Wortham (Associate Artistic Director at Heidi Duckler Dance) explore how integral art and arts programs are in cultivating the future creatives of the entertainment industry. This panel was moderated by Cobra Kai actress Tamlyn Tomita.
