Protesters returned to the heart of “LaLa Land” on Saturday, staging yet another march on the streets of Hollywood. And like the other marches, which have occurred almost daily along the Walk of Fame, it started with dozens and grew to thousands.
The gathering, organized by Refuse Facism LA, started around noon at the famed intersection of Hollywood and Vine with a few dozen protesters. Not long after, as scores more demonstrators streamed in, the intersection was closed.
As the march moved past Vine and onto Selma, it has climbed to more than 500 people. Protest leaders directed the throng to stay on the right side of the road as it moved along, to keep from being hit by cars.
On Santa Monica going towards San Vicente. The crowd is endless. Lots of different movements uniting behind @BLMLA

Unlike previous marches, the presence of Los Angeles police officers appeared to be scaled back. Rather than facing off with their protesters, they lined city streets as the marchers passed and kept watch.
At various points, the marchers paused to “take a knee” en masse.
As the group moved down Sunset Boulevard, approaching Fairfax Avenue, the contingent appeared to have become thousands.
And it continued to grow as it streamed along Fairfax toward Melrose Avenue.
By the time the march had rolled onto La Cienega Boulevard, veering back toward Melrose, it occupied several city blocks. The march appeared to be peaceful, even as it grew.
As mid-afternoon arrived, Saturday’s march remained boisterous but calm. The throng eventually made its way into West Hollywood and Beverly Hills in the late afternoon.
The march, like hundreds of others across the region and the nation, was inspired by the in-custody death of George Floyd, a black Minnesotan. Floyd’s cellphone camera-taped death on Memorial Day set off protests peaceful and volatile alike across the region, the nation and the world.
Police officer Derek Chauvin, who was caught on video pressing his knee to Floyd’s neck, was arrested and must defend himself against an accusation of second-degree murder. Chauvin was initially charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. Those charges still stand. The three other officers at the scene were charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. All four were fired last week.
The Hollywood marches have become almost routine, though not all have been so peaceful. Some have ended in dozens, if not hundreds, of arrests. Demonstrators and police alike were injured.
