After a year’s postponement due to COVID-19, Celebrities Against Cancer is nearing, and nothing stands in its way
“It is so refreshing knowing that we are going forward with this,” organizer Ryan Brown said. “Nothing is going to stop this event from happening.”
From June 16-19, celebrities, professional athletes and musicians will gather in the Cody area for a celebrity softball game, celebrity golf tournament, concerts and youth sports clinics. All proceeds raised will benefit St. Jude Children’s Hospital and the Big Horn Basin Cancer Center in Cody.
On June 18, the event will hold its golf tournament, followed by a banquet for all of its participants. Guest speakers and musicians will be on hand for the banquet.
The next day will feature the softball event, where four teams will play two six-inning games each. Following the games, country recording artists Jamie O’Neal and Bobby Chitwood will perform a concert.
Among those participating in the softball games include actor Harrison Ford, former NFL standout tight end Chris Cooley of Powell, television personality Coyote Peterson and former track star Tyree Washington, among others.
In the days prior to the main events, various athletes will hold sports clinics. These include a quarterback clinic with former Cowboys quarterback Quincy Carter (June 16), a basketball clinic from former Cavaliers forward Jumaine Jones (June 16) and a pitching clinic with former Braves pitcher John Rocker (June 17).
Brown said his goals for the event are to raise as much money for the organizations as possible, as well as making sure everyone involved has a great time and wants to come back. The organizer is thankful for the celebrities — and other personnel involved with the event — for their support after the June 2020 event had to be postponed.
“The celebrities have been so gracious in this whole process,” Brown said. “Cancer affects everyone one way or another and I think that is why they have been so responsive to participating in this event.”
Tickets for both the golf tournament and softball tournament are on sale now. Cost of entry for golf is $100 and includes a meal, two drink coupons and a choice of which hole to watch the tournament from. Tickes for the softball game range from $15-200, which includes both admission to the tournament and subsequent concert.
